Project 52 : Week 18 - Evening

Our evenings (heck, most of our days too) are filled with baseball most of the time. Both boys love being outside and playing sports with us and each other. On this night it was about to start storming any minute so we were out trying to make the most of the nice evening before the storms rolled again (yet again this Spring). Bryce and Scott were playing catch and Landon was on the deck shooting hoops. Bryce's baseball skills continue to amaze me and I love that he loves playing and truly enjoys the game. Scott is a great teacher and Bryce is learning more each time. Here he is about to throw a pitch to Scott standing across the yard. You can see his concentration and purpose in his face.

A note about my settings and setup (shot in manual mode).

  1. Since the sun was almost down and it was super cloudy I had to set the ISO pretty high at 3200. I probably could have lowered it a bit to 800 or 1600 but I needed to keep the shutter speed fast so I had to deal with the grainyness in order to get the crisp photos.

  2. I set the aperture to 3.2 so that I still brought in enough light but still had some wiggle room in the focal plane.

  3. As stated above, I wanted the photos to be sharp and since Bryce was moving around a lot to catch and throw I set the shutter speed fast. I probably could have lowered it to 1/400 since he wasn't actually moving in this shot but I was shooting so much I didn't want to mess with changing the settings on each shot.
