Project 52 : Week 16 - New Beginnings

Even though he isn't in Kindergarten yet, Bryce was able to join the Coach Pitch baseball league this spring instead of doing the tee ball league again. He is SUPER excited to play "real" baseball now. It's the beginning of a long future on the baseball diamond I imagine! He's doing awesome so far keeping up with the kids just a bit older than him and really does want to learn to play the game well. Though he's sometimes hard to coach (especially from Daddy) he does listen and apply the skills the next time. He's one of the best hitters on the team and pays attention throughout the entire practice. And then after the hour long practice is over, he wants to stay and play some more. Baseball is in his blood for good! Can't wait to be a baseball mom for years to come.

A note about my settings and setup (shot in manual mode).

  1. I wanted Bryce to be focal point in the photo but still have a lot of the background so I used the 35mm lens.

  2. It was SUPER sunny this time of night so set the ISO low at 250.

  3. Since it was so sunny I didn't need the aperture to be very open so I closed down to 4.5. I still got some background blur but the focus is still on Bryce.

  4. Since he wasn't actively running I was able to keep the shutter speed at 1/800.

  5. The sun was very tricky to work with because it was so bright and not diffused through any clouds or trees. Because of this the white balance was way off on the photos so I had to edit the photos a lot in Lightroom to even get somewhat close to good colors. The color of the grass just reflected so much green onto the photo. I eventually decided to just convert it to black and white so the colors wouldn't be distracting.
